Shoes decide the door
What to wear to a Madrid club
In short
Madrid club dress codes are smart-casual in the centre and smart on the Salamanca, Colón and Chamartín doors. Trainers, football shirts and sports shorts are what get stopped. Fabrik and Mondo are the exceptions: electronic crowds dress darker and more casually. A ticket does not overrule the door.
| Club | What works | What fails |
|---|---|---|
| Kapital, Joy, Shôko, Barceló | Shirt, clean dark clothes, proper shoes | Sportswear, messy trainers |
| Gabana, Gunilla, Fitz | The smarter version of the above | Groups of men dressed for a match |
| Tiffany’s, Nazca | Going-out clothes, not black tie | Gym kit |
| Mondo Disko | Club casual, dark | Office costume, sportswear |
| Fabrik | Black, casual, warehouse | Heels you cannot stand in for six hours |
Bars in Malasaña and Chueca do not have this rope. Change the outfit when you change the plan, or pick one plan. Age is separate from clothes: 18+ is the usual line, some upscale parties say 19 or 21, and they want a physical ID.

Questions people ask
Can I wear sneakers to a Madrid club?
In a clean, minimal pair you might pass Joy on a weeknight. Do not count on Gabana, Gunilla or Fitz. If the shoes are obviously for sport, change them.
What do women wear?
What they would wear to a Saturday dinner that continues. The door is less fussy than it is with groups of men, and it is still fussy about beachwear and sportswear.
